Oven Baked Sweet Potato Fries with Fry Sauce

I made burgers for the first time ever.

And I've gotta say, I'm pretty stinking proud of myself for it. I've been wanting to make burgers for a while now but it just hasn't happened. Til this week.

I'm really wishing I'd done it sooner though cause guys.... I think I have a knack for it.

Just saying.

I mean, they didn't come out perfectly, my meat-to-bun ratio was a little off so the patties ended up being a little small in diameter compared to the buns. We had a few bites of all-bun unfortunately.

But that being said, these babies were thick and juicy and so flavorful. And really it's the sauce that was the highlight.

In the past when I've gone to a barbecue I'd take a dog over a burger. Not because I like dogs better than hamburgers, because I don't. Not even close. But for some reason I usually don't like the taste of homemade hamburgers. At least not the ones I've had.

I don't know why but the traditional toppings on a homemade burger just haven't ever tasted right to me. They are amazing on a restaurant burger. But not my favorite at home. So I have opted out on the burger front when grilling at home.

But these burgers?

Fifty times better than any homemade burger I've ever had. I'm seriously craving one right now. And it's not even eight in the morning.

I'm sure you're wondering why I'm going on and on about burgers when this is clearly a post about sweet potato fries. Well that's a very good point.

See, I made these sweet potato fries to go with the burgers. But I wasn't expecting the burgers to be so delicious! I mean, it was my first time, who knew it was going to be a home run?

So today I'm sharing the sweet potato fries and I'm just gonna have to make those burgers again, except better of course and with a more perfected burger-bun ratio, and then I'll be bringing you the recipe. Because they really were so so good.

Ah! I really need one. Is a burger for breakfast totally off limits?

But anyway, about these fries....

Hello delicious.

Have you had sweet potato fries? If you haven't you are in for a real treat here. They are sweet and salty at the same time and crazy good.

The great thing is that I feel like they pair well as a side to more dishes than just regular fries would. They aren't just a burger side. (Although that is certainly an amazing thing to have them with.) They can go with tacos, hawaiian rice bowls, sandwiches and wraps, salads, grilled chicken. . . Basically anything.

Of course, growing up french fries were one of my favorite sides in the whole world and I would eat them with anything. Literally. Including burritos and salmon. And on the rare occasion that my family went out for breakfast, guess what I ordered.

Fries.

Those of you who have never been to Utah may not know what Fry Sauce is. Well it's just amazing. And pretty much exactly what it sounds like. Sauce for fries.

Problem is, the only restaurants that serve it are the ones in Utah because it hasn't quite caught on for the rest of the country. Which is really really sad. Although I did see it used by a big chef in a Food Network magazine a while back and they even referenced its Utah origin. So maybe it's up-and-coming.

Basically the base is mayo and ketchup. But that is just the beginning. In my kitchen, I make a slew of varieties when it comes to fry sauce. Just a heads up because I'm sure I'll be bringing them to you in the future. Pretty much every time I make fries I'll be posting a new fry sauce recipe.

This one is pretty traditional but has more flavor than just the mayo-ketchup blend. It's delicious. You will be double, and triple, and quadruple dipping those fries.

If you're sharing with double-dip haters you may want to spoon some onto your plate.

Better yet, make a separate batch for yourself. Then you don't have to worry about running out anyway.
